What is the interpretation of the 2D coordinate system in TrueGrid®?

Answer: The 2D coordinate system in TrueGrid® is independent of the 3D coordinate system. The intent of the original system was to create axis symmetric surfaces as a result of rotating a 2D curve. The z-coordinate in 2D was used to indicate the axis of rotation. The x-coordinate indicated the radius. Many 2D codes use this notation. This notation made it easy to promote models originally in 2D into 3D. With new features added to both 2D and 3D geometry in TrueGrid, the original intent is lost but the notation remains. Every use of a 2D curve in TrueGrid includes, sometimes implicitly, a mapping from the 2D system to the 3D system.
